Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

    As per the regulations of the Thiruvalluvar University, CBCS is a flexible system of learning, which is being followed from the Academic Year 2008-2009 all over Tamil Nadu. An undergraduate students should earn 140 credits to obtain the Degree Certificate.’Credit’ defines the quantum of contents/Syllabus prescribed for a course and determines the number of hours of instruction required. The distinguishing features of CBCS are the following:

It permits the students to:

Learn at their own pace.

Choose electives from a wide range of elective courses offered by the different departments of the college.

Undergo additional courses and acquire more than the required number of credits

Adopt an inter – disciplinary approach to learning.

Make best use of the expertise of the available faculty.

Course of Study:

The main Subject of Study for Bachelor Degree Courses shall consist of the following:

PART – I TAMIL / OTHER LANGUAGES
PART – II ENGLISH
PART – III CORE SUBJECTS
ALLIED SUBJECTS
PROJECT/ ELECTIVES WITH THREE COURSES
PART- IV
1. (a).Those who have not studied Tamil upto XII Std. and taken a Non – Tamil Language Under Part – I shall take Tamil comprising of twocourses [level will be at6th Standard]
(b).Those who have studied Tamil up to XII Std. and taken a Non-Tamil LanguageUnder Part – I shall take Advanced Tamil comprising of two courses.
(c).Others who do not come under a/b can choose Non-Major Elective comprising oftwo courses.
2. SKILL BASED SUBJECTS (ELECTIVE): Four courses are to be offered. Let the Compulsory papers be accommodated in the second / third year of study for UG courses.

PART – V EXTENSION ACTIVITIES A Candidate shall be awarded a maximum of one Credit for Compulsory Extension Service. It may be in the form of enrolling themselves either in NSS or NCC or Sports and Games or Youth Red Cross or any other service organizations, such as, AICUF, Nature Club etc in the college and shall have to put in compulsory minimum attendance of 40 hours which shall be duly certified by the Principal of the college before 31st March of the VIthSemester. The students should complete 40 hours of attendance during the course of the three years of study.

ODD Semester: From the third week of June to the second week of November.

EVEN Semester: From the third week of November to the end of April.

Class Timing
All Classes begin at 9.00 a.m. and end at 1.55 p.m.
(There will be a break between11.15 a.m. to 11.40 a.m)
